Delegation from Russia’s Leading Chemical Company ”Shekinoazot“ Visits AzMeCo Methanol Plant
A high-level delegation from Shekinoazot, one of the leading companies in Russia’s petrochemical industry, visited Azerbaijan to explore potential areas of cooperation. As part of their visit, the delegation toured the region’s first methanol production facility, owned by AzMeCo and located in the Garadagh district.
Led by Mr. Boris Sokol, General Director of Shekinoazot, the delegation was introduced to the Azerbaijan Methanol Project and received an in-depth overview of the plant’s operations. Following the tour, a meeting was held between representatives of Shekinoazot and AzMeCo to discuss prospects for future collaboration and to emphasize the strategic importance of methanol production for both countries’ economies.
During the meeting, Mr. Boris Sokol shared his impressions of the project:
“AzMeCo has successfully built Azerbaijan’s first methanol production plant. As part of the country’s strategic plan to diversify its economy, this project holds great importance and is bound for success.

The professionalism of the project team deserves special recognition. Remarkably, they managed to construct a fully operational methanol plant without the involvement of a major international contractor, paying particular attention to internal systems and structure.

Beyond its industrial impact, the social benefits of the plant are significant—it will create hundreds of new jobs. Methanol also has tremendous potential as a clean fuel of the future. Vehicles running on methanol emit significantly less carbon dioxide, hydrocarbons, and nitrogen oxides compared to gasoline-powered cars.”
