AzMeCo Participates in the International “Caspian Oil and Gas” Exhibition
The Baku Expo Center is hosting the prestigious Caspian Oil and Gas International Exhibition—one of the most significant events in the oil and gas industry of the Caspian Sea region. Among the exhibitors is AzMeCo, the owner of the region’s first methanol plant, showcasing its groundbreaking project and innovative contributions to Azerbaijan’s petrochemical sector.
AzMeCo has recently completed the construction of its state-of-the-art methanol plant in the Garadagh district. Methanol production is considered one of the most promising sectors in the global economy, and AzMeCo has employed the most advanced technologies and equipment to ensure world-class operational standards.
Methanol is synthesized from natural gas in a process recognized as one of the most efficient and environmentally friendly in the chemical industry. In addition to its value as a chemical feedstock, methanol is gaining momentum as a clean alternative fuel. Vehicles running on methanol emit significantly less carbon dioxide, hydrocarbons, and nitrogen oxides (NOx) than conventional gasoline-powered cars.
The versatility of methanol is one of its most attractive qualities. It can power traditional internal combustion engines as well as modern fuel cells used for electricity generation—offering a transitional solution toward greener energy. Furthermore, methanol is a key component in the production of a wide range of everyday products including paints, adhesives, aerosols, and optical media such as CDs and DVDs.

These advantages were the foundation for AzMeCo’s decision to establish a methanol production plant in Azerbaijan. According to Mr. Nizami Piriyev, Chairman of the Board of AzMeCo:
“We anticipate the plant will soon reach its initial project production capacity of 560,000 tons annually. Following that, capacity will be expanded to 720,000 tons through CO₂ reprocessing integrated into the primary production cycle.”
The plant is equipped with a high level of automation. Operations are managed from a central control room by operators trained over six months under the supervision of international experts. The entire production process—including equipment conditions, pressure levels, and other operational parameters—is monitored via six computerized control systems.
The plant’s safety and process control systems have been installed by Honeywell International Inc., a global leader in industrial automation and control solutions.
