AzMeCo Delegation Meets with Libyan Minister of Oil and Gas
On April 2, 2013, the Libyan Minister of Oil and Gas, Dr. Abdulbari Al-Arusi, received the Chairman of the Board of AzMeCo, Mr. Nizami Piriyev, and his accompanying delegation during their official visit to Libya. The meeting was also attended by Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to Libya, Mr. Aghasalim Shukurov.
The parties discussed opportunities for bilateral cooperation in the oil and gas sector. The AzMeCo delegation expressed strong interest in participating in a broad range of investment activities within Libya’s petrochemical industry, including the construction and development of oil fields and infrastructure projects.
Minister Al-Arusi welcomed the delegation and emphasized Libya’s openness to foreign partnerships in revitalizing its energy sector. He also announced that a Libyan delegation will visit Azerbaijan to further explore partnership opportunities and assess AzMeCo’s operational capabilities on-site.
In a separate meeting, Mr. Mustafa Sanallah, a member of the Board of the Libyan National Oil Fund, met with Ambassador Shukurov, Mr. Piriyev, and AzMeCo board members. Also present were Dr. Adil at-Tavil, Director of the Petroleum Industry Administration, and several senior Libyan oil industry experts.
During the meeting, Mr. Nizami Piriyev delivered a presentation on AzMeCo’s activities and capabilities in the oil and gas industry. He highlighted the company’s extensive experience in project development, service provision, and equipment supply, while reaffirming the interest of Azerbaijani companies in contributing to Libya’s oil sector revitalization.
Mr. Sanallah expressed appreciation for AzMeCo’s expertise and the quality of its presentation, noting that Libya is currently developing a long-term strategic plan for its oil and gas sector. He invited Azerbaijani companies to register with the Libyan Ministry of Economy in order to participate in upcoming tenders, which will be published on the official website of the National Oil Fund.
This visit marks a significant step in strengthening Azerbaijan–Libya energy cooperation and creating new business opportunities for private sector involvement in the reconstruction and modernization of Libya’s oil industry.
